Fly alone: “Breakdowns can create breakthroughs. Things fall apart so things can fall together.” ~Unknown.

“Our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world as being able to remake ourselves.” -Gandhi

Butterflies I see them everywhere I go and mostly during my runs. I found a connection with them and I am sure others do as well. When seen they are often flying solo floating and dipping in the air, they seem in a state of ease. Butterflies are so carefree and beautiful to me it is no wonder why they spark so many thoughts. I often wonder what can I learn from the nature of a butterfly. What comes to mind is the butterfly’s strength, courage, determination. The life-cycle of  a butterfly connects to us in many ways, because we all grow up, learn, strive and grow old. It’s just important to think about how much time and energy it takes a butterfly to fly and develop. Throughout the butterflies life they develop alone, admired and loved. Is there pieces of this journey we could use in our life, yes I think so. Sometimes we need to be alone to develop, grow, make changes, achieve, do something you have been pushing to the back of your thoughs.

Are we more productive alone? Do we get things on are to do list finished faster, when we have no one else around?  DO we often slip in to comfort zones? Make choices that are going to last more than a week and dissipate?

I know deep inside all of us are  just as determined young adults making a name for ourselves. Consistently showing the world what we are made of. Providing a secure life for ourselves then allowing the combination with that one person doing the exact same thing. That is courage and patience right there, to allow others to fly solo to be their own personal best.

This mind set will  lead to attraction to like minds. Even thinking about  a group of close friends you have, you may find strength or will to change. Allow yourself to become inspired by them. We are all after the end result, why not learn from each other, build off each others strengths and weaknesses. Accept the change that is happening to all of us. Know that growing old is a blessing and we are on a journey so lets embrace it.

Keep your toes up and take care.

The blue moon and New beginings

6 Sep

A blue moon is the appearance of the third full moon in a season that has four full moons, instead of the usual three.[1] It is never visually blue. Because a blue moon occurs only every two or three years, the term blue moon is used colloquially to mean a rare event, as in the phrase “once in a blue moon”…

I was completely unaware of the moon cycle till now. I am understanding why my mother was always tell me that our bodies follow the moon. My life made some major shifts in the past week and a half and I am wondering if others had this flip as well. After this change I started to read about crystals and Chakra Balancing.

My new-found interest resulted me to find a great site http://www.rockwhisperernyc.com

Chakras are described as spinning wheels or vortices of light, but I find explaining them as different colored lightbulbs easier to visualize: The Root is red, the Sacral orange, the Solar Plexus yellow, the Heart green, the Throat turquoise, the 3rd Eye indigo, and the Crown white or violet. When these ‘lightbulbs’ are perfectly balanced, a good amount of electricity (energy) is flowing through them and they are shining brightly. When they are imbalanced, too little energy is flowing through (causing them to be dim), or too much (causing them to be overblown).

Now, to come back to my yoga practice the other day connected with me. It spoke to me in regards of movement and being off in this cycle. I was in a circle for yoga at a new place with new faces. I told the instructor I am a runner with tight shoulders and hips. ( Common story) She positioned the group in a circle and in the cycle of movement I somehow flipped to the wrong side as everyone else, breaking the flow. This small mistake spoke to me in many ways and I am taking it off the mat and making a point to stay centered.

My hip is helping my toes out for right now…

1 Sep

Training today at the park was really great, Warm-up, weather and I was even in my favorite pair of running crops.

I started to notice a sharp pain in my hip that has been bugging me since April. I know RED FLAG  HELLO!!!! I have ignored this problem for sometime now and now I think I understand what is happening. I went to a hot yoga class back in April and I moved my big toe a strange way…WHAM running gait has changed and this lead to my super compensation on that side causing more pain on right hip.

Buggers. Ice is on my toe as I type. I also like to look things up and found this graph and great read on http://strengthrunning.com/2012/03/how-to-prevent-running-overuse-injuries/

The stress-adaptation graph below illustrates how your body reacts to training. There’s an initial training stimulus (like a workout), a dip in fitness when you feel fatigued and sore, but after you rest enough your body rebounds and BOOM! You’re in better shape than when you started.

Stress Adaptation

At the moment I am going to focus on strength training, yoga and to try to run to keep my distance in the picture.  After this bump I will be back on track ( Literally and Figuratively speaking)

Happy toes
